Children's Orthoptic Eye Care
Helen Collett and your consultant ophthalmologist work together to provide comprehensive care and treatment for children with any suspected eye problems. We focus our care around the whole child and may detect medical; neurological or developmental problems as well as reduced vision, squint and eye movement defects.
We have developed evidence based practice showing that our prompt treatment is effective for the development of optimal vision, eye co-ordination and well-being. Our prompt treatment leads to better reading skills, hand eye, foot eye coordination, sports skills and self-esteem. Without treatment, the damaged eyesight usually gets worse and may become permanent.
We present our findings at national and international professional meetings.
Adult's Orthoptic Eye Care
Helen Collett works with your consultant ophthalmologist, consultant neurologist, Optometrist and GP to provide comprehensive care and treatment of squint and symptoms such as blurred or double vision, dizziness, headaches and eye strain. We focus our care around the whole person and may detect medical; neurological or head and neck problems as well as reduced vision, squint, eye muscle and ophthalmic defects.
We may recommend further tests to reach a diagnosis and treatment plan. Our prompt treatment can have a dramatic effect on eye coordination, mobility and general well-being, getting patients back to work and independence. The eyes may appear to be perfectly straight but have impaired processing between the eyes, brain and external eye muscles. Treatment to improve the coordination of the eyes leads to better reading skills, hand eye, foot eye coordination, and benefits professional sports players, pilots, stockbrokers, secretaries, accountants to name a few.
Patients with a longstanding squint, although unable to use the eyes together, may benefit with Botox or surgery to improve the alignment of the eyes.
Helen Collett uses state of the art ophthalmic diagnostic technology to offer testing of visual fields, retinal photography and OCT scans (Ocular Coherence Tomography) for patients referred by consultant ophthalmologists. She works alongside the specialist Mr Petros Andreou to provide dedicated one stop glaucoma care in Chelmsford.
Helen uses a combination of advanced diagnostic technology to record the structure and function of the retinal nerves at the back of the eye. These help Mr Andreou to treat glaucoma and retinal disease early to prevent irreversible loss of vision. They are nationally recognised for their expertise.
